Opening of the New Mission Church at St. Kea.—We last week gave a description of this new church, which was opened on Thursday, Jan. 1, being the festival of the Circumcision and New-Year’s day. The following clergymen assembled, a little before the hour appointed, two p.m., at the house of Mr. Crago, Church-town Farm, and shortly afterwards walked in their surplices to the new building, viz., the Revs. O. Manley, incumbent of St. John, Truro, and D. Churchward, curate; H. S. Slight, rector of Ruanlanyhorne; R. Vautier, vicar of the united parishes of Kenwyn and Kea; G.S. Woollcombe, curate of Kenwyn; G. L. Church, incumbent of Chacewater; and Jeffeys Murray, curate of St. Kea. The other clergy having taken up their places in the church, the usual afternoon service was commenced by the Rev. J. W. Murray, the Rev. G. L. Woollcombe reading the first lesson, and the Rev. O. Manley, the second, after which the Rev. J. W. Murray administered the sacrament of baptism to three children, when the Rev. H. S. Slight concluded the prayers. Notice of divine service for the following Sunday at 11 a.m., and at 3 p.m., was then given by the Rev. Richard Vautier, with that also for celebration of the Holy Communion. The 100th Psalm was afterwards given out by the Rev. J. W. Murray, and heartily sung by the united voices of the whole congregation. The Rev. G. L. Church then entered the pulpit and delivered and excellent and suitable address from Ps. ⅹⅹⅵ., v. 8, on the nature and duty of true and acceptable public worship, referring with thankfulness to the spirit of restoration witnessed by himself in Kenwyn and Kea during the last 16 years, in that of Kenwyn parish church, St. John’s chapel, with the building of Baldhu and Mithian Mithian churches, and the erection of the beautiful little chapel in which they were then assembled. The day was very stormy, and the roads almost impassable, but the church was crowded to excess. After the service Mrs. Crago very kindly provided tea and coffee at her house for the clergy and others who would remain to partake of her hospitality.
