From the Royal Cornwall Gazette, Thursday 12th February 1914, page 5.
The sum of money (£150) required for the memorial of the stained window over the altar in the “Chapel of the Intercession” at Lis Escop, and the statue in a niche in the West Porch of the Cathedral, is not quite complete. About £25 more are needed, and it is hoped that some friends of the late Bishop who have not yet contributed will be willing to make up this small amount. The glass for the window designed and executed by Messrs. Powell, is in progress, and the statue has been modelled by Mr. Nathanael Hitch, a well-known sculptor, under the direction of Mr. F.L. Pearson.
A design has been approved for the east window at St. Michael’s Church, Newquay, to commemorate the late Bishop Stubbs, who conducted the service at the laying of the foundation-stone, and whose last public act was the consecration of the Church. Of the Bishop in the picture will be a portrait, and he is represented, wearing the 14th century cope of Ely Cathedral and holding the pastoral staff. The window will be commenced when the cost, £450, is forthcoming.
The fund for the memorial to Bishop Gott amounted to £1,144, of which £169 was spent on the reredos in All Saints’ Chapel, £70 on the medallion, and £30 in the statue in the west porch. The sum of £838 has been invested for a Memorial Bursary to assist the poorer clergy of the diocese in the education of their children.
The Bishop has fixed Sunday, May 10th, for “Temperance Sunday,” and it is hoped that, in all parishes, sermons will be preached on temperance, or on work of the C.E.T.S., and that collections will be made for the Diocesan Funds. To the notice sent to the clergy the Bishop adds: “The body is a good servant, but a bad master, and every effort to tame the body, to keep it under and bring it into subjection, ought to have the sympathy of all who believe in the Incanration of the Son of God and in the Resurrection of the Body.”
